Flip, an eight-year-old boy living in the late 1960's, knows just what to
do with his crisp, new birthday dollar. It's his perfect opportunity to finally get one of those wonderful-sounding novelties that he's seen advertised in the back of his favorite comic book. But with so many choices (x-ray specs, rubber masks, the "U-control" monster), he'll have to summon his own wild imagination to fully explore all the possibilities. (0:15)
Inspiration by Director Kirk Demarais
As a kid, I spent many hours pouring over the novelty ads in the back of my comic books. However, I was never allowed to spend my parents' money on these seemingly amazing products. My folks told me that the ads were deceptive, but I suspected they were wrong, or worse, that they wanted to prevent me from getting my hands on a money printing machine or a hypno-coin because such devices would allow me to overpower them. As an adult, I found that I still had a mind full of mysteries surrounding these
too-good-to-be-true products. It was the advent of the online auction that finally allowed me to uncover the truth for myself. My mom and dad were right.
