London

Are you virtually obsessed with celebrities and interested in seeing their work even if the film is most mundane and not very interesting? If so, then London is the film for you. This 2005 independent film stars Jessica Biel, Chris Evans and Jason Statham. It also features a supporting cast featuring more people you might know- Kelli Garner, Dane Cook, Joy Bryant, Louis C.K. ...the list goes on. If hearing Jessica Biel is in a movie is enough to make you want to see it (I am sure you are out there!) then by all means check out London. In fact, I just read that Chris Evans was at the time of the movie Jessica Biel's real life boyfriend. If celebrity romances get you going, check out London. Personally, seeing celebrities is not something I care too much about. Not surprisingly, I was not extremely intrigued with this movie.

The movie is about an apparently functional drug addict Syd (played by Chris Evans who plays Johnny Storm in The Fantastic Four) trying to win back his ex-girlfriend named London (played by Jessica Biel) London is about to leave town and move in with her new boyfriend. Syd shows up uninvited at London's going-away party and locks himself in the bathroom where he proceeds to do drugs, drink, and reminisce about his relationship with London and where he went wrong. Finally, he gets up the nerve to talk to London one last time.

This movie has nice cinematography and the acting is decent. However, the viewer definitely feels as though he is watching a play and not a really great play at that. A great deal of the movie takes place in the bathroom as Syd discusses his feelings and snorts coke with Bateman (played by Jason Statham)

Some of the writing in the movie is sharp and interesting. However, this movie is largely driven by the script- there are very few locations and very little action. To hold the viewer's interest through a 90 minute film, a film with so few actual locations and limited main characters, the writing has to be absolutely outstanding to make a good film. Also I found the ending of the film to be largely unsatisfying. Never a good thing.
