In Her Shoes

In Her Shoes is a movie that flows well and makes you think you are watching something perhaps of substance. However truly the movie has little to no real substance when you analyze it later. What we essentially have here is another "chick flick." Men, beware! However, somehow this chick flick has an odd power over you to keep watching. I know this because for some odd reason my boyfriend kept watching this movie with me and wasn't complaining the whole time.

The movie centers around 2 sisters, Maggie -played by Cameron Diaz- and Rose, played by Toni Collette. The movie is about (what else?) their relationship and relationships with men. Maggie is a party girl and Rose is a responsible lawyer. When Maggie seduces Rose's boyfriend, trouble erupts and Maggie flees town to stay in South Florida with her grandmother she has never met.

The movie intrigued me in that it was directed by Oscar award winner Curtis Hanson. Hanson also directed LA Confidential and 8 Mile. I kept wondering when the slick edgy violence would appear in In Her Shoes. Somehow that misbegotten promise of some interesting violence kept me watching. In Her Shoes is adapted from a novel by Jennifer Weiner- also I am sure geared 100% towards the chick contingient.

I know judging by my description of the film above, most of you are probably thinking In Her Shoes sounds deadly boring and generally uninteresting. However as I mentioned, somehow the movie does keep you watching and again I must point out that my boyfriend even got sucked into watching some of the film. I dont know how this happened. Funny I use the word "sucked" above because we both agree this movie kind of sucks. Its a bit of a mystery why we would watch. In fact, my mother also told me that my father got dragged to see this movie and ended up loving it. I dont know if its the cinematography, the script, the acting but whatever it is, the movie was not really good, but on the other hand its not exactly bad either. (And I dont think its the sexual allure of Cameron Diaz that just "entrances men" since my boyfriend kept mentioning to me how old she looks now and how she has lost her looks overall. )

Realistically, I am amazed the movie made any money at all. Doesn't the title just sound like some sort of water torture for men in particular? Why not just go shopping with the wife/girlfriend at a shoe store for a couple of hours instead? It was a dangerous game indeed that these movie producers played with this title.

So if you just want something mildly entertaining to watch- check this out. You will thank me in the most blase of fashion.
