Eagle Eye
EAGLE EYE: NON STOP ACTION DOESN’T MAKE UP FOR DUMB STORY

With Eagle Eye, D.J. Caruso and Shia LaBeouf reteam after sleeper hit Disturbia. But unlike Disturbia, the plot is ludicrous. Even with good performances from LaBeouf and Michelle Monaghan and action filled sequences, it is still hard to take the movie seriously.
Jerry Shaw (Shia LaBeouf) is the black sheep of his family. He gambles. He works at the local copy place even though he could go to Stanford. He hasn’t seen his family in two years. Then his twin brother passes away. When he returns to his apartment after the funeral, his place is filled with explosives. He gets a call on his cell phone from an unknown woman who tells him the FBI will arrive in less than 30 seconds. When he doesn’t listen to her when she tells him to leave, he is arrested and accused of being a terrorist. Rachel Holloman (Michelle Monaghan) is a single mom who works as a paralegal. She sends her son off to perform with his school band at the Kennedy Center. While out with her girlfriends she gets a phone call from an unknown woman who gives her orders that she has to follow if she wants her son to stay safe. Jerry and Rachel are thrown together by this woman and find it impossible to escape as they try and stop her.
In this day and age, the possibility of Big Brother is making it hard to not become paranoid. This movie takes that possibility and gives it an overdose of steroids. The absurdity of the situations that our hero and heroine go through makes it hard to not laugh. There is no subtlety. LaBeouf and Monaghan are talented actors. They make the film enjoyable with their presence. This is a silly story but the action couldn’t be any better. The first chase scene is a nail biter. And it doesn’t ever let up.
Toning down the ridiculousness of the plot and injecting some realism would have been a good idea.
Fast paced action with capable actors could have made this film, if it didn’t have a storyline that goes over the top and loses its audience.
