Dexter Season Three-“Our Father”

Here Is What You Need To Know:
Dexter really is one of the best shows not just on television now, but that has been on television in the last few years. If you have missed the first two season you are in for a real treat and should get the DVD’s the next time you have a chance. Dexter centers on a Dexter Morgan who works in the Miami Police Department as a scientist whose specialty is blood spatter patterns. Oh and did I mention he was adopted by a police officer who is now dead? Oh did I also mention that Dexter is a serial killer whose dad trained him to channel his blood lust for good? Yeah, Dexter is that awesome. The Season Three Premiere-“Our Father” picks up where Season Two left off and the quality has not slipped a bit. Really, I can’t say enough good things about the show, if you are not watching it, check out the other 24 episodes from the first two seasons so you can enjoy what is bound to be a great third season.
What Was Cool:
Everything about Dexter is cool. The acting from the entire cast is great, but no doubt with the role of Dexter, Michael C. Hall of Six Feet Under fame, has established himself as a premiere actor.
What Was Stupid:
This show is unique in that it does little wrong. Some of the twist and turns may seem a bit unrealistic at times, but Dexter manages to make it all seem plausible in the end. Season Three, “Our Father” was plausible in every way but one, in that Dexter displays some sloppy computer work that he would not have engaged in during the first two seasons. You will understand when you see the episode. Hopefully, this doesn’t mean the writers are losing their touch.
The Film's Real Genius or Geniuses:
James Manos Jr. who created Dexter has done a great job. But we shouldn’t forget Jeff Lindsay whose 2004 novel “Darkly Dreaming Dexter” was the basis for the show. Nice job Jeff.
Overlooked Performance/Accomplishment:
I think the overlooked performance is Jeff Lindsay.
Story A (Dexter creates one heck of a story week after week.)
Use of Science A (Science plays a key role in what Dexter does and how he keeps from getting caught. Science is used very nicely in Dexter.)
Acting A (Great actors all over the place in this rare gem of a television show. Showtime earns their money with Dexter.)
Portrayal of Women A (Dexter has two very strong female characters, Detective Debra Morgan (Jennifer Carpenter) who is Dexter’s sister and Captain Maria LaGuerta played by Lauren Velez.)
Style/Sex Appeal A
Enjoyability Grade A
Home Theater/HD Factor A (Dexter looks wonderful by television standards and is often striking in HD.)
Gut Check (Level of Studio Executive Guts) B (Greenlighting Dexter probably took a little guts as the show is somewhat different.)
Overall Innovation A (Within the crime-drama genre Dexter is innovative and stands out from the crowd.)
Overall Grade A (Dexter is a, well, cut above the rest.)
A Little Fact About Cherie:
I would watch Dexter’s girlfriend Rita Bennett, played by Julie Benz on almost anything.
