South Park-The China Problem-It is About Time!
Normally, I don’t review television shows, but South Park, in particular the South Park-“The China Problem” is a different story. First, it should be noted that South Park is one of the most impressive shows in the history of television. At first, this might just sound like gushing from a guy who really likes the show, especially if you hate South Park. But consider this, South Park will soon see its 200th, yes 200th episode. For a show to remain so consistently funny for such a long time is a remarkable feat. Let’s face it, The Simpsons hasn’t been sidesplitting funny in a long time, but South Park may actually be getting funnier, and there are still three more years of South Park confirmed.
All of this is great and good, but the reason that I felt compelled, very compelled, nay I say driven, to write a review of the South Park-“The China Problem”, is that finally someone in the mainstream media smacked around George Lucas and Steven Spielberg. It was truly fantastic to see Lucas and Spielberg called out for their systematic abuse of valued intellectual properties such as Star Wars and Indiana Jones. It was simply great. Perhaps this will begin shifting the fanboys away from the notion that they have to worship these two extremely undeserving and overrated directors. About damn time.
If you haven’t seen “The China Problem” it really is one of the funniest and most shocking episodes of South Park to date. It is politically incorrect and perhaps Trey Parker and Matt Stone went a little too far, but isn’t that what South Park has always been about. “The China Problem” if you haven’t heard, literally shows Lucas and Spielberg rapping Harrison Ford/Indiana Jones repeatedly and also addresses Lucas abuse of the Star Wars money machine in a similar fashion.
Hopefully Parker and Stone will continue to show courage and let some of our other current sacred cows have that uniquely special South Park treatment. I think many of Americas citizens might appreciate that right about now with our economy victimized and the elections around the corner. I bet its coming.
