Video clip for Jackie Bristow's Crazy Love shot in Piha on the West Coast of New Zealand's North Island
Artistic Statement from Director Paul Taylor
I think the clip for Jackie should be honest and intimate. Go to a location, and shoot performance and portraiture Ivan mentioned the West Coast and it’s striking landscapes. I would be into this, though I was thinking initially more like a room in an old house or hotel.
But then, at Piha on the West Coast, there is a great old RSA -
which gives us both. There are also some cool places at Bethells and Kare Kare - they’re all very special. If we went out there for a day with a tiny crew, shot a roll of performance outside, and a roll inside the RSA, and picked up portraiture and other environmental things on the way, we’d get a really nice video with an honest, earthy feel. Especially if we allow ourselves to be quite organic. Jackie looking beautiful of course, performance not to camera. As if we are watching her play for herself.
Jackie is being Jackie. We’d go for intimacy, tight framing, nothing centred. The textures of the environment. Using what is there.
Colour grade to be quite pale and washed out. Below is some reference. The first few shots are the Piha location, the rest to give an idea of composition and feel.
PAUL TAYLOR.
