Sightseeing Train, Music video for Emily Plays

Directed by Sylvia K

Italy, 3 minutes, 2008

artistic statement about the work :

Meet Emily Plays. directly from Pavia's fog, a bitter-sweet alternative sound. You'll fall in love with it, and it'll become the soundtrack to your dreams. The video is very simple, not to overshadow the music, just a little kid who lives on the moon and a flying choo choo train.

Director biography :

Sylvia K is a 19 year old girl from a town called Pavia,in Italy. She lives in her enchanted world, surrounded by second hand books, puppets, weird glasses, and mosquitos. She loves snow, which is a relevant thing. In her videos, she deforms music and artists and melts everything into a weird mental trip. Things are upside down, there is cotton candy and there's blood, sad kids and lots of rabbits. It doesn't have to make sense. It usually makes people smile, cry, and think. For her videos, she uses the rudimental Windows Movie Media, and it gives a melancholy, childish touch that always suits the drawings and songs. She has ''collaborated'' with Au Revoir Simone, Peaches, Feist and many more. The songs are never chosen randomly, and you won't ever see a video with a song or artist she does not love. You can check her videos out at www.youtube.com/sketchingtheweb and her silly weird drawings at www.myspace.com/idontsunbathenaked .

Band biography :

Emily Plays (www.myspace.com/emiliplays)was born in Pavia, Italy, in the Autumn of 2002. The band started as a duo with Sara Poma (vocals and guitars) and Luca Nicoli (guitars). For two years the duo recorded some acustic lo-fi tracks for a self produced album called 'I Don't Like Your Sense Of Humor (And I Don't Get You'). After a one year hyatus, Emily Plays includes Sara Poma only. In 2006 Sara meets Morning Telefilm, aka Emanuele Gatti from News For Lulu, the hottest indie band in Pavia. Emily Plays and Morning Telefilm start playing live shows together along with other musicians - Simone Fratti (double bass), Cristian Chierici (synth), Davide Impellizzeri from Ultraviolet Makes Me Sick (drums). During the winter of 2007, Emily Plays records her own songs at Phicophonic Studio with Gianmaria Aprile (ultraviolet Makes Me Sick) and her usual friends helping out. No more minimal folk. Now it's time for non-minimal folk. The result is: "Shortsighted Tree EP", three Emily Plays songs plus a Flaming Lips cover. Kirsten Postcards (www.kirstenpostcards.com )was kind enough to love those songs and put them online.
