‘Broken’ is taken from the gorgeous Colour Kane
release of 2007, A Taste Of. The album, featur-
ing a collaboration with Robin Guthrie of Cocteau
Twins fame, is laden with honey coated, magiste-
rial guitars, sweeping electronics and lush vocals.
‘Broken’ encapsulates the album with its exqui-
site interplaying guitars ringing out against the
ethereal voice of Marjan Snykers. As with the rest
of the album, this song finds that unique emotive
space where sonic majesty and melodic crafts-
manship paint the sky with a rich and immersive
melancholy.

A Taste Of features no shortage of blissed-out
material but perhaps no songs are more heavenly
than the anthemic “Share My Ease,” “Silya,” and,
yes, “Seaside Dream” which constitute as mag-
nificent a sampling of dream-pop as you’re likely
to hear in this lifetime. Especially magnificent, the
Guthrie collab teleports Colour Kane into another
stratosphere altogether for three-and-a-half
minutes of pop perfection.

Colour Kane are one of the new breed of dream
popsters. The band deliver cascading guitars and
sweet soaring vocals propelled by driving bass
and electronic beats. Colour Kane’s music draws
a wonderful arc that both defines and divides
melancholy and bliss. Where so much dream
pop is described through aesthetic alone, Colour
Kane radiate atmosphere and shifted emotion
wrapped in jewelled blankets and honey gauze.
The band’s music found Robin Guthrie, who
offered his support, ultimately leading to the
band supporting Robin during his Lumière shows
in Belgium.
