Design: e2 (2006)
“The city is in many ways the greatest energy saving device man’s ever created,” maintains architectural critic Paul Goldberger of The New Yorker in this six-part documentary series. Directed by Tad Fettig and narrated by Brad Pitt, the documentary delves into shedding light on this seemingly antithetical statement. Further, it takes a holistic approach to address some of the major concerns of our time due in large extent to the urban metropolis – overpopulation, global warming, mega-waste created by building and industry, diminishing resources.
Showcasing cutting-edge progressive and energy saving design techniques spanning Chicago, Boston, New York, Austin, Germany, Mexico, Singapore, and China, the series takes a positive yet realistic approach to addressing these major global issues. The documentary looks at what works, what is attainable, and what is ultimately possible
All is presented in an accessible, straightforward manner by pre-eminent sustainability visionaries and elegantly shot in HD. The show premiered on PBS in June 2006 and is also available in a series of free podcasts on the web.
