Hooked on Speedman (Director in Attendance)

Produced by Lindsay Lanzillotta, Written by Nicholas Carella

HDCAM, Canada, 85 minutes

Nick (NICHOLAS CARELLA) and Vince (CHRISTOPHER JACOT) are well-intentioned idiots with a dream. They are desperate to make the big time and get out of Toronto, which they lovingly term ‘Nowheresville.’ Scott Speedman is their ticket. By making a documentary about how their ‘local hero’ made it to the top, they too will bask in the glow of fame and fortune. But there are two obvious problems – they have no idea how to make a movie and they’ve never met Scott Speedman.

The duo head off on an adventure trying desperately to make a successful movie. Along their incapable journey, they stumble upon their old high-school nemesis, Vijay Nath (PABLO SILVEIRA) who now has a three-picture deal under the pseudonym V.J. Nash. It is through this encounter that the pair becomes linked with Dietrich Baum (MAURY CHAYKIN), head of ‘D’Baum Productions’ who will lead them to the promised land.

Their pursuit of Speedman leads to a few near misses but ultimately results in alienating their loved ones, going to jail and generally ruining their own lives. In the end, we discover that the gods of fate might not be entirely against the duo, as ‘Nowheresville’ may be short of two idiots after all.

Joining Nicholas Carella and Christopher Jacot are Maury Chaykin (Where The Truth Lies, Dances with Wolves), Dylan Taylor (Charlie Bartlett, Tidelne) and Paul Gross (H20, Due South.)

“Hooked On Speedman” marks the directorial debut of stage and short film director Michelle Ouellet.

Hooked on Speedman:
Director’s Note.

Hooked on Speedman is a satire exploring pop culture, celebrity obsession and filmmaking on the fringe in Canada. Hooked on Speedman is a story about creating your own destiny by following your dreams.  I would like to dedicate this film to anyone who has run a little too far with a crazy idea.  Hope you enjoy ours.
