Yet another moronic effort from Broken Lizard, Beerfest only reinforces my feelings on the lame comedic troupe: they suck ass.
Whether or not you find their humor to be funny probably depends on how many bong hits (or beer bongs in this case) you’ve had prior to viewing. No amount of mind-altering substances could improve this piece of crap in my humble opinion (believe me when I say I’m going easy on this movie right now).
Apparently, someone in Hollywood thinks these guys are funny, or they think audiences are getting dumber by the day. What with a CV of films that includes Super Troopers (sorry, I know this film has a mild cult following but it isn’t very good), Club Dread (Quite possibly the worst film made in the last five years) and the horrendous Dukes of Hazzard who wouldn’t green light the next magnum opus from a bunch of guys who probably get lit up all day long and actually think what they write is funny?
I’ve now given the Broken Lizard boys four tries at impressing me, and they get worse with every film.
For a film that is all about getting loaded, Beerfest has a sobering effect.
Please, no more Broken Lizard movies. I beg of you movie gods. This kind of “entertainment” is an embarrassment for everyone involved, and the joke always seems to be on the audience with Broken Lizard. This hackneyed and unfunny group of Monty Python wannabes is the movie equivalent of a person who collects unemployment checks but never looks for a job. They get our money without doing any real work.
All I know is that after watching Beerfest I desperately wanted to drink. Not for fun or because the movie inspired me, but to erase the entire experience from my memory.
