Time Machine
Here Is What You Need To Know:
The year is 2002 and we have another remake of a science-fiction classic. This time the Time Machine is directed by H.G. Wells' great-grandson who had little directing experience and it kind of shows at times. The film is not a total yawn, its just not as good as it could have been. What's it about? How could you not know what The Time Machine is about? Doesn't the name tell you everything? Fine. Its about a guy who builds a time machines, goes way into the future, and what else? Yes, as is so often the case with science-fiction we find out that mankind is really heading down the toilet. The film fails to bring anything new to the future inhabited by two kinds of people: the Eloi and the Morlocks. Much of the social commentary of the novel and its focus on the struggle between classes is somewhat lost within the sea of flash and bang. Go figure.
What Was Cool:
-There are some good visuals, but many of the effects are a mixed bag, as quite a few of the backgrounds look pretty fake and really pull you out of the film.
-Sienna Guillory is about as hot as they come, my god, my god. If you like beautiful women, as I do, this one is worth renting just to see her.
-Not to go overboard but Samantha Mumba, who plays Mara, is quite amazing as well.
-Orlando Jones is quite entertaining as Vox and I just don't understand why he doesn't get more work. Very confusing.
What Was Stupid:
-Casting Guy Pearce was stupid. He isn't a strong enough presence to be a lead.
-A director with more experience for a film of this type, doesn't that seem to be in order?
-More attention to the visual effects would seem to be a must for a big-budget remake of a science-fiction classic, don't you agree?
The Film's Real Genius or Geniuses:
-The real genius here is the guy or gal who decided to hire one Sienna Guillory.
