Timeline

Here Is What You Need To Know:

I will be the first to say that Michael Crichton has written some fun novels and has an inventive mind. However, oh however.

What was he thinking with Timeline? After seeing the movie, I said, “self, go read the book. Those Hollywood guys just messed it up.” No. The book sucks too.

The concept is just silly and its all been done before. Here we go: Guys build time machine go back to the days of old, in this particular movie its the 14th century. A bunch of graduate students go back to rescue their brilliant professor and its swords, axes and horse crap a plenty. The visual effects, well, they aren't so visual. The acting, well, it isn't so actingish. Its just dull. The costuming is good, but that is about it. Skip it, don't rent it, don't record it to your DVR. What you don't have a DVR? you must get one.

What Was Cool:
-This is a tough one. I guess going with a bunch of no name actors, I guess.

What Was Stupid:
-The book
-The movie

The Film's Real Genius or Geniuses:
-Not Available

Overlooked Performance/Accomplishment:
-The only possible overlooked accomplishment is all the hard work the costuming people did, that is about it.

Story D- (This story, or some version of it, has been done to death.)
Use of Science B (They try and I believe the writers think that their science-speak saves the film, it doesn't, as it never does.)
Acting C
Portrayal of Women C
Visuals-Visuals and Special Effects C
Visuals-Set Design/Props B (Lots of work went into the sets.)
Wardrobe/Costumes A
Style/Sex Appeal C
Enjoyability Grade D
Home Theater/HD Factor B
(There are plenty of great costumes and some nice sets which will undoubtedly look marvelous on a good high-definition set up.)
Gut Check (Level of Studio Executive Guts) D (Any chicken s*** can give the green light to a Michael Crichton adaptation. What would have taken some real guts was to wisely say no.)
Overall Innovation D
Overall Grade D

A Little Fact About Cherie:
I don't really go for the rough and tumble kind of gals that seem to frequent these renaissance fairs. You asked.
