Timecop

Here Is What You Need To Know:

I can't say that Jean Claude Van Damme is my favorite person for obvious reasons. Personally, I can't get pass the violence issue.

That aside, Timecop takes us on a trip with Van Damme as he plays, Max Walker, who is, well, a timecop who is part of a secret government organization that travels through time and fixes what goes wrong, such as allowing violent men from becoming movie stars.

No that isn't in there unfortunately, but what makes Timecop so ironic is Max is going back in time to time save his murdered wife, I presume so he can beat her himself, but this is just speculation of course. Timecop is one of those films with the budget to do something cool and fun, that just doesn't deliver.

What Was Cool:
-Not too much was cool, but it is one of Sam Raimi's first big-budget films.
-Some of the visual effects are well done, but are not of the caliber to make up for the derivative screenplay.

What Was Stupid:
-The storyline will seem familiar to all and does little to play with the concepts and notions of time travel.
-Why hire Van Damme for this role, even in 1994?
-Timecop has a lead with a good old American name, Max Walker, which sounds more like a athletic shoe than a person. Van Damme, of course, has the thick accent which should have resulted in some script tweaking. The same happened on numerous occasions in films by Governor Arnold, such as The Running Man. Why ignore such a gigantic flaw? Take thirty seconds and address the fact that the guy is a foreigner?

The Film's Real Genius or Geniuses:
Sam Raimund is great, but this film doesn't do it for me. How it spawn a sequel, which should truly be avoided by the way, and a television show is beyond comprehension.

Overlooked Performance/Accomplishment:
-Timecop has a sparkling Mia Sara, not quite as striking as her Legend days, but still quite spectacular.
