Starship Troopers
Here Is What You Need To Know:
Do you really need your movies to be more fun, more action packed than Starship Troopers? Really? If you are an action fan this film is for you, unless your the kind of freak that hates science-fiction and then you're probably into NASCAR or some other garbage like that. Starship Troopers rocks!
Bugs of all shapes and sizes have decided to wipe out life on earth and they fire giant asteroids to get the job done. We get to see terra firma take some impressive hits that are just plain old fun. The story follows a group of friends as they head into different branches of the military and soon venture off into space to kill some bugs.
The social commentary on a militaristic society when combined with the nearly non-stop computer generated carnage, is really what makes Starship Troopers stand out. How have you not yet seen this film?
What Was Cool:
-What is cool is the abundance of marvelous computer generated mayhem and carnage.
-The bugs, all the different bugs, are so well done for the day and are just plain scary!
-Dear god the women. Sex appeal is an understatement. A young Denise Richards, before the self esteem issues that lead her to one Charles Sheen. And she's in a uniform. Ah! And Dina Meyer as Flores and shower scenes, are you serious? I am just telling you what was cool. Don't kill the messenger.
-Neil Patrick Harris as the scientist experimenting on captured bugs, what's not to love?
-Great costumes, great weapons designs, people being ripped apart by giant bugs in innovative and just cool ways, I say again what is not to love?
The Film's Real Genius or Geniuses:
Anyone and everyone who worked on the computer generated visual effects.
Overlooked Performance/Accomplishment:
All those responsible for casting of Denise Richards and Dina Meyer, just brilliant.

Visuals-Visuals and Special Effects A
Visuals-Set Design/Props A
Wardrobe/Costumes A
Style/Sex Appeal A
Enjoyability Grade A
Home Theater/HD Factor A
Gut Check (Level of Studio Executive Guts) C- (Starship Troopers was based on a famous and well-regarded classic work of science-fiction, so not so brave.)
Overall Innovation B+ (Much of the film has a unique look and feel to it.)
Overall Grade A- (This is a very fun film. Some might argue that the book was promoting a militaristic society, if true it is still not clearly reflected in the script. If anything the script and the tone of the movie seem to be running counter to such notions as the military recruitment ads are something of a parody.)
A Little Fact About Cherie:
I think the suburbs are destroying the planet, one soccer mom, one mini-van at a time.
