Screamers
Here Is What You Need To Know:
Screamers is yet another Philip K. Dick story that makes its way to the screen. This is definitely a film that slipped by most people and while it is on the b-movie side, it is entertaining throughout.
The year is 2079 and we find ourselves on the distant mining outpost of Sirius 6B where killing machines are evolving, on their own, into a new breed of killer. Screamers like a lot of science-fiction goes the “bad stuff happens on a mining planet” route, which I have always found interesting. We have somehow conquered space-travel and/or are able to create stable wormholes, or have found an even more exotic means of travel and we still need to go mine for iron ore? Yeah, that seems like a flaw. What you get with Screamers is a action flick that keeps up the pace from beginning to end and doesn't let up too much. There are a couple of twist that you don't exactly see coming that add to the fun.
What Was Cool:
-The different variety of screamers is cool.
-Roy Dupuis is a fine actor that should be a big star. His work on Le Femme Nikita was quite strong.
What Was Stupid:
-Peter Weller as the lead? Who needs Peter Weller, seriously.
Overlooked Performance/Accomplishment:
-Director Christian Duguay did a good job with the budget at hand.

A Little Fact About Cherie:
Roy Dupuis had the pleasure of working with Peta Wilson on La Femme Nikita. This makes me a bit envious of Roy.
