Escape from L.A.

Here Is What You Need To Know:

Welcome to the year 2013 where Los Angeles is now an island and has become to America what Australia was to England-a giant prison colony. John Carpenter, one of my favorite directors, directed and co-wrote this sequel to the classic Escape from NY. Once more we follow the adventures of Snake, played by Kurt Russell, as he is dropped into LA and told to fetch a superweapon. American in the meantime has degenerated into a ultra right-wing paradise where just about anything can get you sent to the island.

If you like social commentary in your films, then Carpenter is once again the guy for you. I won't give away the ending but it should please. Russell is great, the script is fun, the action is intense and some of the science is even a bit thought provoking. Carpenter does films that have a unique edge, such as They Live for example, which is one of my favorites. Escape from LA shares some of that “don't trust the man,” tone to it that you may appreciate. 2013...um.

What Was Cool:

-Escape from LA is a great sequel, how unique is that now?

-Russell is great as snake

-The sets are fun and definitely well-done

-Endings are hard and Escape from LA has an entertaining one to be sure.

What Was Stupid:

-Stupid may be harsh, but this is one franchise that should have more installments. There are a lot of places the story could go and we should see them before Russell is too hold to fit in the costume.

The Film's Real Genius or Geniuses:
-John Carpenter
