Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem

There are a bunch more cliches, but to reveal them would be to give away major plot points, so I will refrain.

The Film's Real Genius or Geniuses:
Usually in this type of film I would sing the praises of the cg guys or the creature effects, etc. Yet in Requiem it was so freaking difficult to see any of the “good stuff” that I just can’t do it this time.  Some of the cg is good, what you can make out that is...

Overlooked Performance/Accomplishment:
     Beats me.

Story  D+ (This is a very weak script that simply does not try very hard.  Requiem is one of those, “who needs to think this crap through, it’s a horror film, who cares if there are some logic holes,”  such as “why are these idiots going into the sewer just to find some lost keys?”)

Acting C+ (The acting is decent considering how dreadfully moronic the script happens to be.)

Portrayal of Women  C- (There is one strong female character who has just returned from Iraq, but many of the other women in the film are just feeble. All the characters are cardboard cut outs.)

Visuals and Special Effects  C
- (Sure there is some great stuff, but you can’t see way too much of this film.)

Visuals-Set Design/Props  C
Wardrobe/Costumes C
Style/Sex Appeal  C

Enjoyability Grade D
(As a fan of these films I was pretty disappointed; however, there are quite a few unintentional laughs and some stinging socio-political commentary. This commentary comes as a shock and helps bring up the overall grade of the film.

Home Theater/HD Factor  C+ (Watching Requiem in HD may only accentuate how poorly directed and shot much of the film happens to be.)

Gut Check (Level of Studio Executive Guts)  F (Oh, gee, how brave you funded another AVP movie, well for God’s sake at least get a passible script!  The script is crap!)

Overall Innovation F

Overall Grade  C-
(Despite its tremendous and glaring flaws, Requiem has enough unintentional laughs and unexpected socio-political statements to narrowly salvage it from the abyss.  However, I doubt AVP 3 will do as well at the box office as Requiem.)

A Little Fact About Cherie:
During Requiem, not only did I almost fall asleep, but also I had to move because of people talking, twice.  Both times these wayward souls were talking about how boring, campy and predictable the film was.
