Home Alone 2: Lost in New York-And the World's Best Parenting Award...
Let's face it, you knew Macaulay Culkin was going to spend some time in rehab, didn't you? Home Alone 2: Lost in New York is about as stupid and straight-forward of a money grab as one will ever see. The first movie, had some heart...some, and a few witty moments of suspended disbelief and escapism. The second movie is just crap. Its one of those, “everyone just ends up together again films,” that lazy writers like, John Hughes, love. If you need an explanation of why this film was a blockbuster this might be the first of my review/rants that you have read. Home Alone 2 is a sequel that exploits the name recognition and positive feelings folks had towards the first film and runs with it to grab some quick, easy cash. Over $250 million worth. Sad but true. Home Alone 2 is essentially a cartoon with people. Basically harmless and devoid of intelligence.
Oh and yeah, this time everything Kevin and his family go to New York, where he gets lost again, in this regards Home Alone is sort of like Die Hard, as the same unbelievable stuff happens to the same guy/kid again. You know, if Kevin is so dam smart, as he repeatedly displays combatting the crooks, then how is it that he keeps getting lost and can't find his way back to his worthless pack? Bottom line, good old Kevin would have been placed with a foster family after this nightmarish display of parenting.
Story D- (John Hughes has made studios some money and that is all that matters.)
Acting C- (One of the reasons for the film's success was people, back in the day, really liked Culkin and found him charming. Fast forward to all the drugs, but at least he hasn't killed anyone.)
Visuals B-
Originality/Innovation F (Imagine this pitch, “Its a sequel to Home Alone, but...wait for it...it all takes place-in New York. Huh...Huh...don't you love it?!”)
Enjoyability Grade D
Home Theater/HD Factor B-
Overall Grade D- (Shame on all involved as some people work hard for their money.)
