American Pie 2
The first American Pie movie was a real shocker in more ways than one, as it shocked audiences, it shocked the MBA's, lawyers and probably even industrial psychologists that run Hollywood, and it, surely shocked all involved in its production. This crude “little movie” is a testament to how starved for originality and innovation, for any storyline that deviates from the formulas, most movie goers are. American Pie 2 reunites the cast after they have been away at college for a year and we get more of the same.
The cast is back and to their credit, they don't just show up and collect a paycheck but actually put forth the same effort we saw in the first film. Jason Biggs is a decent actor, but still should not be a focal point of any film, but Hollywood will eventually figure this out after they loose enough money, they always do, it just takes time, especially if a good agent is involved.
This second film is successful for much the same reason that the first film was a hit, namely because it is a riot, and continues to be nearly as ridiculous and hilarious as the first flick. While the budget soared, the gross also went up to somewhere in the ballpark of $250 million, thus making the sequel less profitable, but still a dream come true for most studios and most producers. The success is no secret, as the film builds on the name of the first film, a truly funny script and good chemistry from the cast. American Pie 2 like the first American Pie, is just plain, dirty fun.
