Premonition
Due to my general lack of enthusiasm for anything new in the theaters, I have taken to renting a lot lately. This weekend I decided to rent and watch Premonition. Sandra Bullock plays a housewife who learns her husband was killed in a car wreck the previous day. When she awakens the next morning, she learns it is a week prior and she suddenly has the potential to
change the outcome... or does she?
Though the concept was brilliant, the overall follow-through left a lot to be desired. The acting was good, the plot was good but the order of events made it hard to follow and difficult to understand. Or at least that was the impression given. Whether it was confusing or merely appeared more confusing than it was, something about this movie made it hard for me to
enjoy it or appreciate it.
Overall I would give Premonition a C.
Premonition recieves an overall grade breakdown as follows:
Story: A. Great story idea and concept.
Acting: B. Pretty good, though I didn't fully relate to the characters. I watched them instead of sharing in their emotions with them.
Visuals: B. Nothing too impressive but nothing impressive was really called for either.
Originality/Innovation: C. Original story, to some extent, but the telling of it could have been easier to follow.
Enjoyability grade: C-. I found myself too frustrated with inconsistencies and flashback/flashforward confusion to truly enjoy the movie as a whole.
Overall grade: C. Not horrible. Worth watching for the story concept and potential conversations you can have with friends afterward, but don't try to overanalyze it or else you will become very, very frustrated.
