Synopsis:

A four year labor of love, written, directed, animated, illustrated, and scored by Sean B. Conly, Jabbawaki is the story of a monster's love, and a journey of self discovery. Inspired by summers spent on the majestic shores of Lake Winnipeg in Manitoba and the magical winters of North Ontario, Sean uses his interest in folk art and storybook illustration, as well as his love of a good tale, to bring to life the challenges of this love struck and unlikely hero. Illustrated in Photoshop, and animated in After Effects, this film was constructed in a series of virtual dioramas. Scored by Sean with throwbacks to folk and classical music, it is all tied together with a haunting narration by Peter Longworth.

Sean B. Conly was born the youngest of five in the Canadian capital, Ottawa, in 1975. His parents originally from Manitoba soon moved the family to Winnipeg, followed by a final move to Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario where his father set up a medical practice. Sean often draws inspiration from his childhood time spent playing in the majestic forests of the Canadian Shield, and on the fable like shores of Lake Winnipeg in Manitoba where he summered with his family at his grandparent’s cottage. Music is another source of inspiration for Sean having studied piano from young age, with later lessons in music theory, guitar and drums. After graduating from the classical animation program at Sheridan College Sean made the leap directly into computer animation. He has worked in Canada, Germany and the U.S.A on television series, commercials, video games, and both featureand Imax films.

Now living in the heart of Toronto with his wife Mary-Ann, Sean has spent the past four years drawing on material from his childhood, his many travels, and his passion for music, bringing to life his first animated short: Jabbawaki.
