NEW YORK FILM FESTIVAL 2009

The Film society of Lincoln Center will open the 47th edition of the New York Film Festival with the U.S. premiere of Alain Resnais's "Wild Grass (Les herbes folles') and close with Pedro Almodovar's "Broken Embraces" (Los abrazos rotos). This year's Centerpiece will be Lee Daniel's "Precious: Based on the Novel PUSH by Sapphire". The returns this year to its renowned home, Alice Tully Hall, beautifully restored with superb, state-of-the-art sound and projection. In addition this year's festival will include two Masterworks series from China and India.

The 17-day NYFF-09 highlights the best in international cinema, featuring the top films from around the world. The selection committee chose 29 films from 17 countries by celebrated filmmakers as well as fresh new independent directors.

Claire Denis), "Eccentricities of a Blond" (dir. Manoel de Oliveira), "The White Ribbon" (dir. Michael Haneke), "36 Views of Saint-Loup Peak" (dir. Jacques Rivette), "Life During Wartime" (dir. Todd Solondz), "Antichrist" (dir. Lars von Treir), "Sweet Rush" (dir. Andrzej), "Everyone Else" (dir. Maren Ade), "Lebenon" (dir. Samuel Maoz), "Independencia" (dir. Raya Martin), "To Die Like A Man" (dir. Joao Pedro Rodriques) and "Kanikosen" (dir. Sabu).

This year the NYFF-09 introduces Masterworks which will feature works from India and China such as "Re-Inventing China: A New Cinema for a New Society, 1949-1996" and " A Heart as Big as the World: The Films of Guru Dutt". In addition, a Spotlight Retrospective will be Victor Fleming's beloved classic, "The Wizard of Oz", for its 70th Anniversary presentation in a brand new high definition restoration.
