Silent Hill (micro-review)
The late night previews for Silent Hill, really freaked me out. I would literally change the channel as fast as possible. So, I had a fair degree of curiosity and anticipation built up when I popped in the DVD. But, now that I have watched the DVD I am puzzled by Silent Hill which is confusing and often grotesque.
Radha Mitchell plays Rose a mother who is searching for a cure for her daughter Sharon’s sleep problems. While driving to Silent Hill, Rose and Sharon get into a car crash and Sharon disappears. Rose’s quest to find her daughter is an excellent example of motherly love in action. Due to its confusing storyline that is rather hard to follow, Silent Hill gets a grade of C. The graphics are well-done and the portrayal of hell’s creatures (oops, I just gave something away) are cleverly done and are really a must see.
What I liked the most about the DVD is the six part behind the scenes featurette on the film. A further positive aspect of the film is that you do not need to play the video game to understand the concept of the film. Often, of course, this is not the case with video game to movie translations. Silent Hill is an interesting DVD due to its artistic detail, character creations and DVD extras. |
