The Lake House
Do you remember the previews for The Lake House? Do you remember the line, "it’s the same day 2 years apart"? Well, each time I asked myself, "okay, how will that set up possibly work?" But with Reeves looking really good on the DVD cover I said what the heck if all else fails I could at least stare at his face the whole time. By the end of the movie I actually shed a few tears. I was feeling the love.
Reeves plays an architect named Alex Wyler who lives in the year 2004. Sandra Bullock reunites with Reeves to play doctor Kate Forster who lives in 2006. With all the magic in the world of love they end up conversing through a mailbox. In trying to figure out the mystery of their situation they begin a real time romantic relationship without even meeting. The only thing these two could ever hope for is that moment in time when they can meet face to face.
The movie surprised me because even though it’s a time travel fantasy the concept of this movie was never lost within the time travel element. Further, Reeves and Bullock are excellent. They have such a natural chemistry that they made me want to believe time travel love could actually happen. Or was it that I wished one day I could be with Keanu?
The script was well written and original. All the characters and locations where incorporated perfectly as they played an important role in the film. In other words, there was no real dead weight. The Lake House will either remind you of your current love, a past love, or a person who you hope to find one day (Keanu?) and that is a feeling we can all relate to. The most impressive part of The Lake House is the originality of the story. The Lake House is, in plain English, a romantic fantasy, but don’t we all need a little romantic fantasy from time to time?
