Elf
According to all the TV commercials being plastered across my eyes, it seems to be Christmas soon and Thanksgiving has yet to arrive. Yet the sheer strength of the marketing has worked and I am joyously in that Christmas mood. My gift to you is to keep you feeling warm hearted, laughing, and reminiscing of all your precious moments.
Elf is a A+ Christmas movie starring Will Ferrell and directed by Jon Favreau. Ferrell plays Buddy, an orphaned human raised by elves and we follow Buddy in his search for his biological father played by James Cann. Part of Buddy’s journey centers around the situational comedy of the orphaned human attempting to explore and adapt to the life of an ordinary human. Buddy who knows nothing but outside of the cheerful world of the elves, yet soon learns of the harsher, human world. What a premise. What can I say, I absolutely love this movie.
Ferrell, is playing one of his best characters and no one could of done it better. Audiences will simply not be able to sit through this movie without laughing at Ferrell’s performance. Visualize a goofy full-grown man who believes he’s an elf. Caan’s role as the father was also key to the film and serves to move much of the action along. Even though his part is the typical variation of the scrooge type character, the character has enough of a new spin to avoid feeling cliched.
In the end, audiences will undoubtedly have experienced a lot of laughs, that special feeling in your heart, and thoughts of all the people you love in your own life. The most important thing to remember about Elf is that the film will make you smile and laugh. Kids and adults can equally enjoy what Elf delivers. Through all the negative stresses each of us experience we all deserve to laugh, smile, and feel good. Enjoy this film.
