Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas
I personally enjoy the Christmas classic, How the Grinch Stole Christmas every year. This live action incarnation of the beloved work was directed by Ron Howard and stars, Jim Carrey as the Grinch, Taylor Momsen as Cindy Lou Who, Jeffrey Tambor, Christine Baranski, Molly Shannon, and Clint Howard just to name a few.
I know you most have seen the cartoon version that plays on TV during the Christmas season. Well, I felt that the new "reality"version really brought The Grinch to life. The film was a captivating translation of its animated cousin. Everything from the make-up, backdrop, people of Whoville, and the physical world were all perfect. I mean PERFECT. I was magically amazed by Whoville as a child and found myself impressed by how real Ron Howard's world of the Grinch looked in every way. What was also great about the movie was that it told the backstory of how the mean spirited Grinch came to be.
No review of The Grinch would be complete without mentioning Jim Carrey. I honestly believe that this man was put on this earth to bring the Grinch to life and the scores of incredible makeup did wonders in helping Carey bring the Grinch into reality. Carrey brought out the comedic, devious, and sarcastic nature that is the Grinch. Momsen as Cindy Lou Who and Carrey were a perfect match and complemented each other very well.
This is a film that will charm people of all ages. It’s a traditional movie with a new age look and a whole lot more. The set design and art direction were top notch, as Whoville looked magical and every element of the production is detailed. Grinch is a moral story that attempts to remind audiences of the real meaning of Christmas, in particular, that even though we all experience "rough spots" there is still much in life that we need to be grateful for and appreciate. Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas is a simplistic tale with an enchanted story that will bring out the child in all of us.
