Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan

The title of the movie pretty much explains it all. I was not disappointed one bit. Funny man Sacha Baron Cohen from the hit show Ali G is the mastermind behind this nutty film. Cohen plays Kazakhstani TV host Borat who is sent to the United States to shoot reports about the U.S.. Through his early findings Borat becomes infatuated with no other American, than Pamela Anderson and he sets out on his mission to travel to California to find her.

If you’re familiar with Ali G you already have an idea of how unique Cohen happens to be and if you are not a fan, you will be after Borat. I simply can’t explain how many times I laughed throughout this movie. Every minute was hilarious. Let me repeat this, every minute was hilarious. What I like most about Cohen is the fact that he does not overact just to get a laugh. The variety of characters he plays are completely brought to life. In all honesty I don’t even know what the real Sacha Baron Cohen looks like.

I was looking forward to this film for the fact that I grew up around Americans who had immigrated from foreign countries. I am American raised and born but all my family is from another country. There is nothing more entertaining than watching people adapt to the culture and language. Watching newcomers become intergrated into our society can serve as a great learning experience for everyone, simultaneously demonstrating how we are all the same and yet different. And if there is a great laugh now and then, well, I guess that is okay too. For example, can you imagine explaining to somebody on how to use a toilet?

Borat is also realistic in portraying how some Americans feel towards certain issues. In a humorous way, this marvelous film brought out the hidden side of people. The film does wonders to showcase that many Americans may not be as tolerate on the subject of race, religion and sexual orientation as we might want to believe. One can actually watch this film and learn that differences are a good thing.

This film brought tears to my eyes from all the laughing I did. In fact this is the first time where I heard the whole theatre laughing and you know that’s a good sign. Go ahead and spend some time with Borat, you won’t be disappointed.
