300

The movie 300 is about the battle of Thermopylae, which is considered to be one of the most famous last stands in world history. 300 Spartans inspired a legend by fighting a battle against a Persian army of 170,000 men. The battle of Thermopylae is noteworthy due to its contribution in forming the world’s first democracy as well as creating a strong empire.

When a story is retold by numerous generations of storytellers the original tale can sometimes lose the grandeur of the base story. The movie 300 successfully captures the grandeur of the battle of Thermopylae in all its golden glory. Every aspects of production from the acting, directing, special effects, and every other aspect of 3captured the essence of this legendary tale.

Gerard Butler who portrayed King Leonidas was simply exceptional. Butler’s King Leonidas shines with confidence and allows Butler to showcase some impressive acting talents. Butler does a great job portraying Leonidas as a confident man with a sense of humor and by the end of the film I was informing my boyfriend that King Leonidas was what I was looking for in a man. A man that believes in what he can do and accomplish along with a humorous side. Yes, his acting was that good!

As 300 is adapted from a novel by Frank Miller, it is clear that Zack Snyder incorporated many aspects of Miller’s other famous work Sin City into the film. The style of the film is visually innovative and truly kept me in awe. 300 defines great storytelling and that story is brought to life with the use of futuristic innovations, such as bluescreen and computer generated imagery.

Seriously, I can only hope to do justice to 300. 300 was unlike any other film I had seen before and I was mesmerized by the story, the determination of the characters, and what 300 Spartans were able to accomplish. The film itself was fresh and new-a sort of modern opera brought to the big screen. 300 is a film that simply needs to be experienced, as few films can even come close to its originality.
